Prosperity or Calm? What's your choice?

This story about the title holder of ‘World’s Tallest Man’ caught my eye today.

It caught my eye because I grew up loving the Guinness Book of World Records. It stirred my heart and imagination as it quoted the previous title holder.  You see the man who previously held the title, Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk (who reportedly stand 8′ 5.5″ tall) lost the title because he refused to be independently measured by the folks at the GBWR.

When asked why, he answered;

“If this title had given me more health or a few extra years, I would have taken it, but the opposite happened, I only wasted my nerve cells. If I have to choose between prosperity and calm, I choose calm.”

By contrast the new record holder, Sultan Kosen, is hoping that fame colors him lucky in love;

“Up until now it’s been really difficult to find a girlfriend,” Kosen said through an interpreter. “I’ve never had one, they were usually scared of me. … Hopefully now that I’m famous I’ll be able to meet lots of girls. I’d like to get married.”

Interesting to me that both men, one through the shunning of the spotlight and the other’s pursuit of it, are not seeking fortune, but rather peace and nurture.

Aren’t we all?  Or at least, shouldn’t we be?

I for one, hope both men find what they’re looking for.
